Spring, 2012 (or early summer!!!?)

Hello everyone!  Jamey and I have been enjoying the beautiful weather UP here!  Spent lots of time on the beach last weekend - lots of people were out enjoying the unusually warm weather.  Jamey found an awesome agate over the weekend - very cool!

Today we took our dogs out to the beach next to the mouth of Carpenter Creek.  Bear had lots of fun fetching a stick out on the bay and Domino, who is 16 1/2 just walked around and waded a little.  What a lovely day - we are so fortunate to be able to enjoy all of this nature!!!  Here are some pictures from our day!
The sunrise from today.

We had a nice time on the beach today - right before we were ready to leave, the wind changed and it felt like the temperature got 20 degrees colder - it felt great!  Everyone should get a chance to experience our wonderful "abundance of nature".

It's Friday!!!

It's been a beautiful  couple of days by the bay.  We have been taking long walks on the beach, which, by the way has tons of rocks to look at and the agates are just waiting to be found!  This morning the sunrise was beautiful, as usual, and we took some pictures from inside our house.  There were some fisherman out on the bay - maybe you can see the boat!
Hope everyone has a happy and safe weekend!

Another great day by the bay!

Hello - Today was another beautiful day by the bay.  Jamey and I went for a 3 hour walk from here to Sable Falls and back.  We walked through Woodland Park, down the steps at First Creek and headed West.  It was colder and windier than I expected - the temperature here said 40 degrees, but the wind chill was much colder!  We walked to the "teepee", went in to try to get a little shelter, but it wasn't any better than outside of it!  A short distance farther we made it to the mouth of the Sable.  There was much less ice today, but the waves were crashing and the water was raging.  Here are a couple of pictures taken on the beach between Woodland Park and Sable Falls:
On this photo you can see the light house on the point.
Here's an iceberg that broke off - the waves were crashing here, but we were not able to capture it on camera.
You can see the "teepee" on the left of this picture.
This was taken near the bottom of the Falls - I thought it kind of looked like a heart!
Here's Jamey at the Falls - the trees formed a cross in the background - we did not realize this until we were home and looked at the pictures.  Cool, eh?

Here I am at the falls.
We took this near the top of the stairs - great perspective!
When we were about 1/3 of the way up to the top, we stopped for a moment and we saw a bald eagle leave its roost and it soared down towards Lake Superior -it was about 30 feet away from us!  What an incredible sight!  We walked to the top of the stairs, still kind of icy, and then walked back to Grand Marais on H-58. After we got home the sun came out and the lake was an awesome shade of blue.  Here is a picture taken from our deck, as you can see, most of the ice that was in the bay has melted.

Sunny Sunday!!!

It's been a beautiful weekend!  Very sunny and mild outside.  Still a few snowmobilers in town for the last bit of winter fun.  Jamey's parents were here for the weekend and we had a nice time.  Saturday we went for a walk from the front porch towards Sable Falls.  When we headed back we went up the steps at First Creek and walked through Woodland Park and back home.  A very lovely 2 hour trek.  Jamey & I found some cool rocks for our garden (no agates, though).  Today after Jamey's parents left we went for a walk from our beach and went East to the mouth of the Carpenter Creek.  What a nice walk.  Jamey jumped over the creek and got his feet wet when the ice broke - oops!  It's really awesome checking out the icebergs along the shoreline.

Here is another picture taken from our deck today:

Friday!!!

Hello, everyone!  It was very cold again today and snowed off and on - white out conditions at times and at other times the sun was out!  We had some lovely guests stay with us last night and they enjoyed a nice hike in the school forest and had a bite to eat at the Lake Superior Brewing Co. and then came "home" and took a dip in the hot tub!  This morning for breakfast we had scrambled eggs with spinach, onions, cheese and spices, fresh summer wheat bread, home fried potatoes with parsley, thick cut bacon, banana chocolate chip bread and sliced apples and kiwi - delicious!!!  Of course, plenty of coffee was also served!  Here are some pictures and a short video.  (The video moves a little too fast, sorry, I was really cold out on our deck!)
We are looking forward to Jamey's parents coming UP for the weekend!

It's Thursday and it was very cold!

Hello, everyone,
Jamey & I went for a walk on the beach today - from Agate Beach to Coast Guard Point.  It was very windy and cold; however the sun was beautiful! The icebergs were awesome and the waves were rolling - what a beautiful sight!  Jamey took this picture from inside our house today:
After we got home the bay was awesome as well as the sunset.  Here are some pictures that Jamey took from our deck!
